History of Thomas D. Reilley Sr. Council Knights of Columbus # 10668 Shortly after St. Francis By The Sea Catholic Church was dedicated, several men of the parish explored the possibility of forming a new Knights of Columbus council for the parish. Robert Bidwell was the first Grand Knight. The council was named after a prominent member of the parish that had died in the recent past.  


WHEN WE MEET Our meetings are on the first  Mondays of the month and are held in St. Francis By The Sea Parish Center. First Mondays of the Month-Council Business Meetings at 7:00 PM. When First Degree Ememplification is held, meeting will start at 7:00 PM.  


WHO CAN BECOME A KNIGHT Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practical Catholic men in union with the Holy See, who shall not be less than eighteen years of age on their last birthday. 


THE PATRIOTIC DEGREE Another degree open to members of the Knights of Columbus is that of the Fourth (or Patriotic) Forth Degree groups called assemblies. Fourth Degree members must retain their membership as Third Degree members in their local council to remain in good standing. Certain members of the Fourth Degree serve as honor guards and color corps at civic and religious functions, and activity which has brought worldwide recognition to the Knights of Columbus organization.

In 2023 Council 10668 awarded $14,000 in College Scholarships


There were seven (7) awards for $2,000 each. Four (4) of the Awardees were present to accept their Scholarship Awards and three (3) were not able to attend

Brother Knights,


We have a couple action packed months ahead of us. I send out our Council Event Calendar monthly but thought I would give you the following recap with highlights. You can print this off and update your personal calendars. Please try to attend as many of these functions as possible, because it is always better with you there!


Sat Apr 27-Sun Apr 28 - Tootsie Roll Campaign - We have 21 Knights who signed up to offer Tootsie Rolls and collect a donation after every Mass. Even if you didn't sign up, stop by and ask Chairman Tom Behan if you can be of any help.


Sun May 5 - Fellowship Sunday - It is the Knight's turn to assist with this Coffee and Donuts Ministry in the Family Center after 9 AM and 10:30 AM Masses. A sign-up request will go out shortly.


Sun May 5 - Membership Drive - Membership Director Bill Wanovich will head this up during the Fellowship Sunday event in the Family Center after 9 AM and 10:30 AM Masses. This should give the Knights exposure to approximately 200 people who pass through for fellowship. A sign-up request will go out shortly.


Sun May 5 - First Communion Mass at 12:00 Noon - 4th Degree Sir Knights will provide an Honor Guard for our First Communion recipients. All 4th Degree Sir Knights are encouraged to participate. Uniformed Sir Knights will lead the Honor Guard processions followed by Sir Knights in dark suit and Social Baldric.


Mon May 6 - Council Meeting at 7:00 PM in the Family Center - New Officers list will be announced for the first round of voting.


Thurs May 16 - 4th Degree Assembly Meeting at 7:00 PM in the Family Center


Sun May 19 - Confirmation Mass at Holy Family Parish 6:00 PM - 4th Degree Sir Knights will provide an Honor Guard for the Confirmation recipients. All 4th Degree Sir Knights are encouraged to participate. Uniformed Sir Knights will lead the Honor Guard processions followed by Sir Knights in dark suit and Social Baldric.


Fri May 24 - PEP Picnic at Jarvis Creek Park - A volunteer sign-up request will go out shortly.


Fri May 24 - SFCS 8th Grade Graduation Mass 6:00 PM - 4th Degree Sir Knights will provide an Honor Guard for the Graduation Class. All 4th Degree Sir Knights are encouraged to participate. Uniformed Sir Knights will lead the Honor Guard processions followed by Sir Knights in dark suit and Social Baldric.


Sat May 25 or Sun May 26 - Veterans Memorial Mass & Presentation - Further details to be announced in next few weeks.


Mon Jun 3 - Council Meeting at 7:00 PM in the Family Center - New Officers list will be announced for the second and final round of voting. The $2,000 Scholarships will be presented to the winning students at this meeting.


Sun Jun 16 - A Very Special Event After 9:00 AM Mass in the Family Center - Details To Be Announced - You won't want to miss this event.


Thurs Jun 20 - Ladies Appreciation Luncheon - Details To Be Announced

Sun Jun 23 - New 4th Degree Assembly 2280 Officers Installation Ceremony at 10:00 AM in the Family Center. All Officer's spouses are invited and encouraged to attend. 


Sun Jun 23 - New Council 10668 Officers Installation Ceremony at 11:00 AM in the Family Center. All Officer's spouses are invited and encouraged to attend.


Sun Jun 23 - New Officers Reception & Luncheon following the ceremonies at 12:00 Noon in the Family Center. All Officer's spouses are invited and encouraged to attend.

Primary Events for Sir Knight Participation:


Flag placement and retrieval on veteran grave sites events:


A) Memorial Day: Mighty Eighth Cemetery behind Museum 175 Bourne Ave

Pooler, GA 31322 Tel. 912-748-8888. No Captain, go at your individual option.


B) Six Oaks Cemetery – Hilton Head Flag placement /retrieval. 1. Memorial Day –

May – Rick D’Arienzo - Captain. 2. July 4 th - Rich Regan – Captain. 3.Patriot’s

Day- September – Frank Grywalski – Captain. 4. Veterans Day- November - Bill

Crawford - Captain. 5. Wreath Rack placement/retrieval - December – Bill Taylor -

Captain and we donate to “Wreaths Across America”.


C) Flag for Retirement collection – St. Francis by the Sea one weekend as

designated for flag retirement ceremony by HHI Fire & Rescue as scheduled.


Optional Events for Sir Knights Participation:


A) Operation Patriot – Ridgeland, SC every Saturday “Warrior Coffee” starts at

9:00 AM in Ridgeland. TJ Plummer thomas@OPFOB.org .


B) National Alliance for Mental Illness NAMI – Bluffton, SC Michelle Casey –

Director – 843-301-1964 assist with various events held here on Hilton Head or

Bluffton as notified by NAMI.


C) Christmas visit to veteran at VA Hospital Charleston, SC – Bart Bubnell

coordinator.


D.) Continued involvement and contact with St. Francis Catholic School grades 6-8

on what we do for patriotism, possibly do a veterans day celebration. Also then

branch out to John Paul II; Hilton Head High ROTC and possibly Hilton Head

Middle School grades 6-8. Do the K of C 4 th degree patriotism PowerPoint slide

presentation and civic responsibilities.


NOTE: No cost entrance to Six Oaks Cemetery is by having a Hilton Head

Plantation sticker or by telling the guard that you are going to the cemetery.
